Star of the Month – August 2010

Scarlett Lau

For a teacher, the best feeling comes from when you see your students grow. Not just growing upwards, but mainly when they grow from within.

Scarlett Lau’s passion for music has grown with the help of MusikTunes. Always punctual and 110% engaged in class, Scarlett never fails to participate in the class activities whilst wearing a smile. She is always eager to join in, and to show the whole class that she has also been practicing her singing at home! Scarlett sure knows how to have fun and be serious about her music.

Though there are so many songs to be learnt in MusikTunes, Scarlett’s favourite song is still the My MusikBox Welcome Song! Singing and clapping her little hands to the Welcome Song played by Miss Wong on the piano has helped Scarlett grow her sense of rhythm. Creating a steady beat is something she can now do with ease.

Scarlett and Mommy make a great team, working together on their singing and chanting, but now that she has started the piano activities in module four, Scarlett also wants to show us that she has grown in independence and she is able to achieve a lot by herself.

Growth is a wonderful thing to witness, and we are so proud to see Scarlett has blossomed into a great little musician with a strong character.

Congratulations Scarlett, You are our Star of the Month!

Star of the Month – July 2010

Aron Leung

It started with the MMB welcome song, then with the goodbye song. Aron Leung started showing his smiles during the sections he was familiar with. Gradually, Aron started to enjoy more of each class and soon he was beaming through the whole lesson whilst singing and dancing with his classmates!

It takes time for some early learners to warm up to a new class, new environment and new faces. Aron Leung was one of those early learners.

In the early days of joining teacher Shirley’s Footsteps I class, Aron was hesitant about participating in the music activities. Too shy to join in but also clearly curious, Aron would stay close to his mom and simply observe what his classmates were doing. Aron wasn’t so sure that it was safe for him to open up and enjoy himself.

The creative movement and instrument play sections has taught Aron how to have fun and be imaginative with music. Aron has demonstrated that he knows how to fly and dance like an angel, walk on all fours like a cow and play with percussion instruments in a variety of ways! He was also the first in his class to grasp the concept of our Signature Activity. Amazing progress for a little boy who spent his first few weeks at My MusikBox observing his friends!

Do you know what else is amazing? Aron is our youngest Star of the Month so far!

Congratulations Aron….You are our STAR OF THE MONTH!

Anthony Woo

Everyone feels excitement when learning a new skill or trying something for the first time, especially if it is an activity you have always wanted to excel in. Imagine the frustration you must feel if you struggle to grasp that new skill. That’s what Anthony Woo and his mommy felt when Anthony started MusikPiano. Anthony’s delicate little fingers worked so hard to play the keys on the piano but every time he tried, he found he had very limited control over his fingers. Being the youngest in class is no easy task, especially if you are also younger than the recommended age to start piano-playing!

But this little guy had big plans. It didn’t matter to him that he was younger than his peers as he knew that through hard work, he could play just as well as his friends in class. What followed was hard work on Anthony’s part, plenty of encouragement from mommy and lots of motivation from Miss Wong and his peers. Through all of this, Anthony was able to master his first piece, ‘Ode to Joy’ by Beethoven! Since then, Anthony’s frustration has dissolved and his confidence has grown. His enjoyment can be clearly seen by all in his class when he is singing solfege and playing the bunny game, as Anthony sings the loudest and jumps the highest!

Anthony has a new focus in class now; playing his first hands-together piece. With this little boy, you know that once he masters that, he will sing even louder and jump even higher!

Congratulations Anthony…You are our STAR OF THE MONTH!

My MusikBox Auditions – June 2010

GIRLS COMPLETE

Recognizing and encouraging true talent and potential is part of what we do at My MusikBox. For the second consecutive year, My MusikBox has offered a limited number of scholarships to students to participate in the 3rd HK Students Open Music Competition.

Eight deserving students were invited to audition for the exclusive scholarships. It was a nerve-wracking experience for most and all our performers felt the pressure, with so many pairs of eyes on them. However, they each put in 100% heart and effort into their performances and they should all be congratulated for that.

Two students in particular played exceptionally well, and My MusikBox is proud to announce that Madison Man and Cleo Lau will be representing us at the 3rd HK Student’s Open Music Competition.

Well done to Madison and Cleo, and thank you to all who participated in the audition.

Eugene Lau

Eugene Lau simply cannot wait until the pretend play section of Kids on Air every week. Like his peers, this role-playing activity is his favourite part of the class. When role-playing, Eugene is able to stretch his imagination and pretend that he is doing something he is otherwise unable to do such as driving a car on the road, or cooking at a restaurant.

Little Eugene started off a little timid like most kids often do. He spoke with the gentlest voice and he would hover in the background instead of coming to the forefront. Previously, Eugene’s involvement in class would be answering questions only when asked. Now Eugene likes to contribute his own thoughts and ideas in class discussion time. Public speaking is always a daunting experience, no matter what your age. However Eugene’s confidence has grown many times over and he is more willing to speak up now especially when taking on a new role.

Eugene has started to reap the benefits of our Kids on Air program, and with each passing week he is coming out of his shell a little more each time. The performance, role-play and leadership opportunities in Kids on Air has opened his eyes to a new world of possibilities, and everything now seem a lot less daunting for little Eugene.

Star of the Month – April 2010

Thomas Chau

Thomas Chau speeds around his First Touch Piano class confidently, looking for the correct coloured butterfly to match teacher Carmen’s rainbow bell. In the process, he helps his classmates search for their butterfly if they are struggling. Always willing to help others and share his things, Thomas is now an excellent role model for his classmates, giving them the support that he received to help him grow into a confident little musician.

Only a few months ago, Thomas found it hard to let go of Daddy’s hand in class. The alien language that is English frightened him and it made it difficult for him to let go of what was a source of comfort. Thomas was unable to interact with Teacher Carmen and his classmates initially, often responding in Cantonese, but soon he sensed everyone’s caring and supportive side and realized that the classroom was a place of fun!

Thomas’ friends showed him how to have fun during the colour recognition games. Teacher Carmen showed him how to have fun whilst playing the piano. And now, Thomas shows everyone else how quickly he has picked that up! Daddy can now sit back and enjoy Thomas playing his favourite First Touch Piano songs as he no longer needs to point to the colours for Thomas to follow. Hand-eye coordination development is one of the main focuses of First Touch Piano and it is great to see that Thomas now has a firm grasp of this.

In less than six months, Thomas’ progress has stunned everyone. He has a great love for the piano and we are all truly looking forward to this love growing into something much bigger.

Lau Ka Yu

Lau Ka Yu would feel her little heart pound when she was invited to sing at the front of her MusikTunes class with her friends. It is never easy to stand in front of an audience, with many pairs of eyes staring at you, waiting for your performance.  Yu-Yu was more than happy to join in class sing-alongs as long as she was within the comfort of her Daddy’s presence.  In fact her heart would pound to the point where she would always turn down the centre stage – even when Teacher Shirley promised to reward her with her favorite giraffe stamp.

So guess what a massive surprise it was for everyone when little Yu-Yu strutted onto the huge City Hall stage at our My MusikBox 2010 Family Recital, and sang her little heart out. Yu-Yu’s performance was such that her pounding heart was no longer full of fear. Her heart was pumping, full of excitement and joy which only the big stage can bring. One of the greatest things about kids is there natural virtue to find a way to charm, shock, surprise and completely amaze us.

Since the taste of limelight, she has been eager to perform to her classmates! On many occasions since her centre stage performance, Yu-Yu has been the first to head out to the front of the class and display her star performance and enthusiasm is for all to see. She has just started her MusikPiano classes, where singing is a huge part of the course. This should be a delight for the playful little girl that likes to open her mouth to sing.

On the Family Recital stage, Yu-Yu announced to the world that she had finally arrived. It was an unforgettable moment. We are all equally proud to announce to the world that Yu-Yu is our March Star of the Month.
